Day 7 - 30 Paintings - 30 Days, January, 2015

Animal Spirits

After a realistic, botanical painting yesterday, I have moved back into the abstract arena. Today's painting represents a limited palette of some of my favorite colors composed of transparents:  Transparent Pyrrol Orange, New Gamboge, Quinacridone Gold and Green Gold plus one non-transparent color - Cobalt Turquoise.

After working primarily with transparent pigments for a while, it is quite noticeable when working with pigments that have more more opacity.  I enjoy the depth and delicacy of transparent colors and yet also appreciate the more definitive coverage of the more opaque paints.  It all works together to achieve balance.

This painting seems to evoke to me the spirits of many animals - thus the title.  See what it may say to you...
