Day 10: 30 Days - 30 Paintings - Sept. 2016

Between Worlds

Today's painting is a shift to a more quiet, cooler palette using acrylics on 140 lb. watercolor paper.  To me it has an ethereal quality that floats upward.  What do you see and feel?

Day 9: 30 Days - 30 Paintings - Sept. 2016

River of Life

Today's painting has been in the works for a while.  Usually my paintings evolve rather quickly.   This one took it's time.  It includes a bit of mono-printed paper, foil, and layers of paint.  Note that the source of the river of life is...you guessed it...a Sri Yantra.
Enjoy!

Day 8: 30 Days - 30 Paintings - Sept. 2016

Zip It!

This painting began as one thing - and ended as another.  One of the things I love about painting abstractly is the necessity to problem solve in order to enable a piece to evolve to its ultimate potential.  It seems to work both vertically and horizontally - you can choose...let me know...

Day 7: 30 Days - 30 Paintings - Sept. 2016

Red Towers

We have journeyed from the powerful standing stones of the Outer Hebrides of Scotland yesterday to the ethereal Red Rocks of Arizona today.  It was a nice trip, right?

This piece is painted on 140 lb. watercolor paper and mounted on a wood panel. It is the latest addition to my Arizona Inspired Artwork Collection...

Day 6: 30 Days - 30 Paintings - Sept. 2016

Callanish

This painting was inspired by a profound experience while in the presence of the standing stones at Callanish on the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.  It was June, it was 10:00 p.m. and the sun was still shining.  What was even more surprising was that aside from a flock of sheep - we were the only (seemingly human) beings there.  The ancient site is massive - roughly the size of a football field - and the towering stones stand majestically in a Celtic cross formation.  It is truly impressive.  The bold colors and design  in the painting are indicative of the strength of the experience.

The closest town to Callanish is Stornoway, population about 8,000 - which by-the-way happened to have an amazing Chinese restaurant (hence the Chinese papers incorporated in the painting).  Although mixing cultural symbols, if you look closely you may actually find a Sri Yantra or two.  It's time to get the Celtic symbols out...

Day 5: 30 Days - 30 Paintings - Sept. 2016

Sri Yantra Moon Rising

There is a certain amount of whimsy in today's painting...another in the Sri Yantra series.  I was intrigued by the color combinations, the dancing landscape and the free-wheeling sky. You may see something totally different - let me know...

Enjoy!

Day 4: 30 Days - 30 Paintings - Sept. 2016

Bubble Up

So far most of these paintings seem to be revolving around a theme better called, "Where's the Sri Yantra?"  If you haven't already, view Days 1 and 2 for more information about the symbol.

This painting has a series of smooth textual elements in the bubbles along with a clay piece that contains the Sri Yantra image in relief.  I find the use of white space to be relaxing to the eye.  The piece is painted on 300 lb watercolor paper.  Note:  The photo gives the background a slight purplish tinge - but in actuality it is bright white.

Enjoy!
