Day 4: 30 Days - 30 Paintings - Sept. 2016

Bubble Up

So far most of these paintings seem to be revolving around a theme better called, "Where's the Sri Yantra?"  If you haven't already, view Days 1 and 2 for more information about the symbol.

This painting has a series of smooth textual elements in the bubbles along with a clay piece that contains the Sri Yantra image in relief.  I find the use of white space to be relaxing to the eye.  The piece is painted on 300 lb watercolor paper.  Note:  The photo gives the background a slight purplish tinge - but in actuality it is bright white.

Enjoy!

Day 3: 30 Days - 30 Paintings - Sept. 2016

Prime Numbers

A prime number is a natural number greater than 1 that has no positive divisors other than 1 and itself.  The numbers depicted here: 2, 3, 5 and 7 are the first four prime numbers which became the rather tongue-in-cheek inspiration and focus of the painting.

This painting began in a wonderful workshop taught by Carol Nelson during Art Unraveled in Phoenix.  It combines rough texture and mixed media and is mounted on a wood panel. View Carol's amazing work and new instructional video at www.carolnelsonfineart.com.

Day 2: 30 Days - 30 Paintings - Sept. 2016

Sri Yantra Gateway

The Sri Yantra is a complex and mesmerizing 12,000 year old Hindu symbol and is considered the "mother of all Yantras".  Yantras are geometrical designs based on the principles of sacred geometry and are often used for meditation.

As an  intricate design, the Sri Yantra is a mathematically precise, interconnected matrix  based on the Golden Mean or Phi ratio. It is composed of nine interlocking triangles - four triangles pointing up and five triangles pointing down.

A total of 43 triangles with 33 intersections are created from the overlapping of the nine original triangles.

[As an aside:  The symbol appears as an interesting focus in the 2007 science fiction movie The Last Mimzy.  While some of the information presented about it is circumspect, the visual effects in the movie are quite lovely.]

The Sri Yantra frequently makes its way into my paintings due to the fact that it is a very strong design element for me and resonates deeply within me.  Today's painting uses the Sri Yantra representation as an element of texture - capturing paint and light in an intriguing way.

30 Days - 30 Paintings - Sept. 2016

Day 1 - Another 30 Paintings in 30 Days

Another 30 Paintings in 30 Days project begins.  In January of 2016 over 1500 artists worldwide  participated in the challenge.  This September should add a few more - so here we go again...

The impetus for the beginning of this 30 Day sequence is this painting.  More will be revealed as the days unfold...

More Arizona Inspired Art Work

Sedona - Chapel of the Holy Cross

This commissioned piece held great heart-felt significance to the person who commissioned it. As the artist, I felt very strongly directed from an inner source with each brushstroke and choice of color.  It was a very beautiful and calming experience.  Artists often talk of 'being in the zone' while creating.  With this piece I was not only in the zone, but also felt as if I were lovingly inspired throughout.  It is what I refer to as the divinity of creation.

The side view shows the deep cradled edges which were painted with a Venetian Red Gesso to visually reiterate the red of the rocks in the painting.

Arizona Inspired Artwork

Arizona Inspires (and Perspires)!

It might be the heat...it is only 117
°...

I have a deep affiliation with the Arizona desert and landscape.  I am often inspired to paint it in its many forms.  I have decided to devote an entire  collection on my website to Arizona Inspired Artwork.
                                      http://cagleyart.com/collections/89793

This collection contains pieces done in various media - using watercolor, acrylics, ink and/or mixed media.  I will expand the series as the spirit of the sun inspires. The piece below is heavily textured and portrays the intensity of color and feeling evoked by the heat of the Arizona sun.  Let me know what you think.
Enjoy!
